The Truth about Eternity
Is there an Eternity? Is there an afterlife? Where will I spend my eternity? Do I really have a choice. What happens to me if I get this wrong? And If I do will there be hell to paid? The most important question in life is, “Where will I spend Eternity?” To answer this, first you must consider what God is like and what does eternity means. The Bible says God is Holy, just, perfect, all knowing, all powerful, full of grace and mercy; but “will not allow the wicked to go unpunished.” Isaiah 6:3, Exodus 34:5-7. Eternity means forever and ever, without end. Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.
Eternity is a profound and often mystical concept that many religious and philosophical traditions explore deeply. From a Christian perspective, here are some key beliefs about eternity:
- Eternal Life Through Christ: Christians believe that through faith in Jesus Christ, individuals are granted eternal life. This is often based on scriptures like John 3:16, which says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
- Heaven and Hell: The Bible speaks of two eternal destinies – heaven, a place of eternal communion with God, and hell, a place of separation from God. Passages like Matthew 25:46 describe this dual outcome: “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
- Resurrection and Judgment: Christians believe in the resurrection of the dead and a final judgment. Those who have accepted Christ will be rewarded with eternal life, while those who have rejected Him face eternal separation. Revelation 20:12-15 depicts this final judgment scene.
- New Creation: The Bible also speaks of a new heaven and a new earth, where God will dwell with His people for eternity. Revelation 21:1-4 describes this beautiful vision of eternity: “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea… Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.”
These beliefs are central to many Christians’ understanding of eternity.
What are the Two Judgments on Eternity?
There are two judgments. The Judgement Seat of Christ I Corinthians 3:13-15 and The White Throne Judgement Revelation 20:11-15 and The bible says in Matthew 7:13-14 that there are two path of life. One leads to eternal life in Heaven and the other leads to eternal destruction in Hell.
So, what is the different between the Judgment Seat of Christ and the Great White Throne Judgement?
The Judgment Seat of Christ (for the saved) Revelation 20:11-15
Lets talk about The Judgment Seat of Christ. This will be for the saved in Christ. For those that have accepted Christ as their savior. It will take place in Heaven while those on earth are going through the Tribulation. The judging will be by our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. Rewards will be given to each believer based on how we have used and lived our life for Him.
Great White Throne Judgment (for the unsaved) I Corinthians 3:13-15
Now let us talk about The Great White Throne Judgment. There will be a time and place where all of mankind who do not truly accepted Jesus as their Savior and did know Jesus as their Savior and Lord. The unsaved will stand before Him to be judged. Everyone who has died and who is living at that time without Christ in their heart will be standing before Him as a defendant to be judged.
The Bible tells us in I John 5:13, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life…” The simple truth is God wants you to know where you’re going!
Here are Four Important Facts to Consider about Eternity:
1. We Have All Sinned
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
We are all sinners by nature and by choice. God sees all – actions, thoughts, motives and places we go. We all feel guilty and ashamed of things in our lives.
2. We Have a Penalty for Our Sin
“For the wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:23a
Sin must be paid for. God says the payment is death, Jesus said there are 2 deaths:
(1) Physical Death
God already knows the day we will die. We can’t avoid it- only prepare for it.
(2) Spiritual Death
That’s when a soul dies unforgiven and pays for his own sins, and goes to hell forever (by the way, hell was not created for people but for the devil and demons). God doesn’t want anyone to go to hell.
“ … but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23b
God sent Jesus as His free gift to us so we could receive Him and one day live in heaven forever.
A gift can’t be bought or earned. It can only be received. Forgiveness does not come through baptism, church or good deeds. It only comes through receiving Jesus once and for all as a GIFT into our hearts by faith.
Yes, Jesus did die for everyone-but not every person is going to heaven-only those who receive Him. We either receive or reject Christ Jesus. There is no in-between. No one is born with Him in their lives. He is a gentleman and won’t come in our heart until invited.
3. We Can Have the Saviour
John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
“But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
God chose to let Jesus pay for our sin by taking our place on the cross. He was spit upon, whipped, beard plucked and crucified. He loves you. He died, was buried, and arose after 3 days and is in heaven making room for you. If you were the only sinner in the world, Jesus would have died just for you. He loves you!
To be honest, most people have never had a definite time, place and day to accept Jesus once and for all into their hearts. If it’s ever happened to you, you’d remember it!
If you were to die unforgiven as you are, where does the Bible say you’d go?
Is that what you want?
4. We Can Be Forgiven Now
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13. Heaven is a free gift. You cannot earn or deserve Heaven.
Romans 10:9-10 if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Listen to the audio below. This is something to think about?
